Karate
|
Karate was developed in the Ryukyu Islands, which are now part of Okinawa, Japan. Karate has been heavily influenced by the Chinese martial arts and has the meaning "empty hand." Bushi Matsumura, the body guard to the emperor of the Ryukyu kingdom, was the creator of our style of Karate. Our lineage is as follows: Bushi Matsumura, Nabe Matsumura, Hohan Soken, Fuse Kise and Isao Kise, Lisa Sudbury. Sensei Sudbury is Hank and Cris' instructor in Karate, Kobudo, and Tuite.

kobudo
Kobudo is Okinawa weapons training. Most of the weapons that were used for self defense in Okinawa were everyday farming and fishing tools. Some of these tools turned weapons that are taught in the OSMKKF are the bo, sai, kama, tunfa, tekko, nunchaku, and ekku. |

Tuite
|
Tuite is a grappling art of joint control and manipulation. It flows with and compliments the striking of Karate. We study how the body moves and use that information to unbalance and control an aggressor. Joint locks, breaks, and takedowns are all part of Tuite. While students in the Kids classes learn escapes from grabs, Tuite is taught only in the adult class, it is not for children. |
