Dragonfly Karate has been open for 8 years!

January 3, 2017 was our opening day.  It has been 8 years and we would like say to thanks to all who support us. 
It has been a great adventure that we look forward to continuing for years to come!

Tyler Karate Academy is hosting camp this year. It is just a short drive to Tyler, TX. 
Federation camps give students a HUGE boost in their training, students get to learn from living Karate legends,

100 KOBUDO CHALLENGE 2019

​The 100 Kobudo Challenge is open Saturday, March 30 for all students who know a kobudo kata.  Join us from 9 a.m. until 12 noon.  This challenge will strengthen your skills with weapons as well as making you have a stronger will through perseverance.  See you there students!

JKD / KALI SEMINAR

Jeet Kune Do Seminar
with Sifu Matt Hamilton
May 26, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Dragonfly Karate & Kobudo is proud to welcome guest instructor Matt Hamilton to teach a self-defense seminar.  This seminar is for ages teen and adult and will be held at the dojo on May 26, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.  Matt has a plethora of martial arts experience and is a great instructor.  You do not want to miss this opportunity.   See Hank for more details.

The seminar will focus on JKD striking and trapping, as well as Hubud and "What if" scenarios. Shorts and t-shirts are good, groin protection and shin guards recommended.
UPDATE: The seminar was fantastic!  Special thanks to Sifu Matt Hamilton for instructing us. 
All who participated were blown away by the quality of instruction, and we all got a few bruises too!

2018 OSMKKF spring Camp

Dragonfly Karate & Kobudo was blessed to co-host with Kaizen Martial Arts the OSMKKF 2018 Spring Camp in
Terrell, Tx.  We had 16 from our dojo at camp and all worked hard and learned much.  Special thanks to
Sensei Lisa Sudbury for coordinating and running the camp as well as to all our volunteers.  It was great
to see Grand Master Fusei Kise, Kaicho Isao Kise, and 170 other karateka from 3 different continents.

Tuhon Ray Parra Seminar

Bring you training knives, sticks and pads! This is and excellent opportunity to learn from a great instructor and learn a blend of JKD, Kali, and Silat.  Join us in Terrell on Saturday October 14th, 2017 (10am- 3pm.)  The cost is $60.  You can sign up for the event here.

​100 KATA CHALLENGE
​During regular class time we will complete the 100 kata challenge.  Those who complete the challenge will receive a certificate.  Practice your kata leading up to the event as this will not be a time to learn new kata, but rather to practice and better that which we previously know.  October 24

FATHER'S DAY CLASS


Hank and Cris appreciate our students' parents.  

We put together a fun day of martial arts training with students and their dads / granddads on June 17.
​  
We covered Karate basics, escapes, and Kali sticks.  It was a great time, thanks for all who attended.

BUNKAI SEMINAR 2017 in Austin, Texas

Instructors Cris and Hank attended the 2017 Bunkai Seminar hosted by Sensei Paul Wilson of White Rock Kenshinkan Karate this past weekend (March 4).  We had a great time of learning and bonding with martial artists of various styles.  Bunkai is the analysis of kata moves for self-defense.  We will be coving much of what we learned in class, see you there.  We'll post more pictures as they come available to us, stay tuned.

100 KOBUDO KATA CHALLENGE

Kobudo is the name for Okinawan weapons.  Dragonfly Karate & Kobudo will be joining with North Texas Kenshin Kan to do the 100 Kobudo Kata Challenge.  This is an event where karate from around the world will be participating.  The event takes place at the dojo on March 28 from 6 p.m. until we finish.  Talk to Hank or Cris for more details.

SELF-DEFENSE SEMINAR
Saturday, May 6, there will be a free self-defense seminar for adults at Dragonfly Karate & Kobudo.  No experience is needed and the seminar is designed for non-martial artists.  The seminar will start at 4:00 p.m. and last around 1-2 hours.  Contact Hank, (214)680-5252, if you are interested in attending the seminar and learning to defend and protect yourself and loved ones.  Space is limited, sign up soon.
